What to pack for the backwaters
Maya N. · 28 Feb 2026
Light cotton, mosquito balm, and a soft bag that survives a houseboat cabin — the short list we actually use.
Houseboat cabins are cosy. Soft duffels beat hard suitcases. Pack light cottons, a light shawl for AC nights, sandals you can rinse, and a small dry bag for phones.
Mosquito protection, sunscreen, and a basic medicine pouch matter more than formal wear. Evenings are casual; a neat shirt is enough for dinner on board.
Leave room for spices and coir souvenirs — shops appear when you least expect them along the canals.
